Ištvan Išt Huzjan selected for In Sesto Prize

09 November 2019

One of three artists selected for In Sesto Prize 2019, Ištvan Išt Huzjan proposes a public sculptural work entitled Time Machine.

In Sesto Prize, part of Palinsesti – Festival of Contemporary Art (9 November 2019 – 19 January 2020), is based on a democratic vote formula. Three artists present a sculpture or an installation project intended for a public area in San Vito al Tagliamento, in the Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Visitors are invited to express their preferences by voting, thus deciding which artwork will be carried out during the course of 2020.

The artist’s proposal is an object shaped like half of a perfect circle, shiny to the point of reflection.

“The archetypal form of a half circle surpassing human scale is intended to have a strong effect upon the viewer, as it confronts us with the passage of time, both because it is missing a half and because it mirrors our own figure, as if what we see in a sunrise were our own reflection being swept away by a river. As suggested by its name, explicitly alluding to the river which flows through it, San Vito al Tagliamento is strongly linked to its cultural history and nature. My project aims to link these two aspects by transforming a natural phenomenon and humanising it.” – Ištvan Išt Huzjan
