Vlad Albu

“My work brings together sculpture, installation, and photography to investigate the subtle and often uncanny relationships we form with objects, space, and architecture.

My current inquiry into the future of dwelling and objecthood grew instinctively from my background in photography. While my earlier works documented constructed spaces and the boundaries between public and private environments, my focus has gradually moved inward. I have shifted my attention toward the quiet life of things, looking past their utility to understand them as mediators of our relationship with the contemporary world. I have become interested in how these forms can act as symptoms of a complex reality, revealing the hidden structures and powers that shape our present.

I approach these objects not merely as inert forms, but as agents carrying specific physical and emotional weight. I examine how these material presences reflect contemporary conditions of fragility, uncertainty, and the mechanisms of support. Through a language of restrained materiality and imaginative narratives, I build arrangements that hold a state of anticipation, creating the space for a slower, more intimate encounter.”

“What expectations do we have of space, how does it change us and how do we change it? Do we understand how space inhabits us? Does interrogating how we relate to private/public spaces and their function in our everyday lives help us to better understand modern society? Starting from these questions and connections between elements related to contemporary living (inhabitation, space, intimacy, migration, etc.), the project talks about the idea of personal construction through everything we see, feel and experience.”
