Historical works from the series Modules by Marilena Preda Sânc, a major figure on the Eastern European art scene since the 1980s, were at the center of the solo presentation at viennacontemporary 2015.
Curator Liviana Dan on the artist’s work: “MPS has developed her own research system in visual abstraction. She works with a repertoire of elementary shapes and with a set of rules, activated in the visual field. With an academic austerity and a sympathy for cultural analysis, MPS practices art as an idea, but also as an action. In order to refine a system, MPS links motifs such as abstractionism, reciprocity, cooperation. The structure remains abstract. The tactics have ecological discipline. The strategy is feminist.”
