One of three artists selected for In Sesto Prize 2019, Ištvan Išt Huzjan proposes a public sculpture entitled Time Machine. The work – shaped as a semicircle and shiny to the point of reflection – is meant to confront viewers with the passage of time.

Ištvan Išt Huzjan at the 9th Triennial of Contemporary Art U3

The artist’s response to U3 curator Vit Havránek’s question – “Is avant-garde dead or alive?” – was a proposal for a collective performance. Titled The Last Kolo, it is a reference to a traditional folk dance performed in Slovenia, the Bela Krajina region. In terms of art history, the Bela Krajina kolo is best known from Matija Jama’s paintings and from the later appropriations by the avant-gardes and the trans-avantgarde.
